Alexa Jurak, DVM
Dr. Alexa Jurak is native of Montreal, Canada; she moved to Florida as a child. Growing up she was very involved with competitive equestrian sports and did very well in the Jumper circuit. Although she had an opportunity to compete at the Grand Prix levels, Dr. Jurak decided to follow her passion for animal sciences and graduated with a biology degree from Elon University. She continued to earn her DVM at Saint Matthews in the Cayman Islands. During her clinical rotations realized that she loved working with companion animals.
Dr. Jurak has an undeniable strong work ethic- while working full time at a busy six doctor practice in Florida, she also worked overnight shifts to support a local practice. Dr Jurak is excited to bring her expertise in internal medicine, dermatology and surgery to Mohnacky Animal Hospitals. She is excited to build long term relationships with her clients. Dr. Jurak currently serves as Chief Veterinarian at our Vista location. In her free time Dr. Jurak enjoys riding her horses, ballroom dancing, playing with her two dogs and traveling.
Nilli Karmi, DVM
Dr. Nilli Karmi was born and raised in Israel -she moved to the US in 2002 after serving in the Israeli Defense Force and graduated with a BSc from Ben Gurion University; Dr. Karmi graduated with a DVM from UC Davis in 2012.
Dr. Karmi DVM joined Mohnacky Animal Hospital’s Vista team Summer 2018. Dr. Karmi brings extensive experience as a well-rounded DVM with a PhD in Genetics. In addition, she has authored a chapter for a well-known veterinary textbook, been published in peer reviewed veterinary journals, lectured to breed clubs, and has a managed a large animal practice. As a general practitioner she thrives on educating clients on quality medicine and preventative care.
In her free time Dr Karmi enjoys the outdoors with her two-year-old son. She loves to read, dance, and cook meals for her family. Her fur children include a “career changed” guide dog- “Oliver”, a rambunctious puppy- “Shooky”, a regal tuxedo cat- “Nounie” (who expects butler service at 5PM SHARP), and an orange tabby with an identity crisis – “Jinji” (aka “the dog cat”).
Leah Stalker, RVT
Leah Stalker, RVT is Executive Director for MAHC and MAHV. Leah was born and raised in San Diego and currently resides in Fallbrook. Leah began working in animal nutrition in 2004 before moving to Iwakuni, Japan with her husband. While there, Leah took a job with the US Army Veterinary Corps treating military working dogs. In 2011 her family moved back stateside and she worked in a busy exotic practice caring for everything from birds to snakes to goats. Leah also worked with a traveling orthopedic surgeon and veterinary practices of all sizes, while providing relief services to hospitals in both San Diego and Riverside County.
Leah has a passion for riding horses and has been doing so since the age of two. She has traveled to nine countries and looks forward to seeing the world. In her spare time Leah enjoys interior decorating, riding, hanging outside with her chickens and standard poodle “Daphne” as well as spending her time with her daughter and husband.
